Handmade Since 1924Almeda Chocolates began with Almeda Rupp, a talented home cook in northwest Ohio with a passion for creating exceptional sweets. What started in her own kitchen soon grew into something special. Sharing her handmade chocolates with family and friends, Almeda began delivering her creations door to door, building a loyal following one sweet treat at a time.
More than a century later, that tradition lives on in every piece of Almeda chocolate. Rooted in time-honored recipes and a commitment to quality, we continue to create the handmade confections customers have loved for generations, including our signature Famous Chocolate Stix.
Just one more Stix. Famous last words.
A crunchy, toffee-like peanut center wrapped in milk or dark chocolate makes it awfully tempting to reach for another.
Pick up a box for sharing. How much you share is between you and the box. 😉

A recipe worth keeping. A tradition worth carrying on. 🤎
Almeda’s son John Rupp, pictured at work, continued the family chocolate business with his wife, Mabel, preserving the recipes and care that made these chocolates a favorite.
In 1988, the tradition stayed in the family when Brent Taylor, a cousin of the Rupps, purchased Almeda. He and his wife, Diane, continued making the chocolates customers had loved for generations.
Now, a new chapter begins with the Callewaert family. Their candy making heritage spans four generations at @rybasfudge on Mackinac Island. Famous Chocolate Stix have long been a favorite in their own family, making the opportunity to carry Almeda’s tradition forward especially meaningful. With their own candy making heritage and fond memories of Almeda, they’re honored to keep these beloved chocolates part of your family’s traditions, too.

It started with a request from Almeda’s son. It became our signature sweet.
Our Famous Chocolate Stix have a crunchy, toffee-like peanut center covered in milk or dark chocolate. Almeda created the recipe at one son’s request, and generations of chocolate lovers have been glad she did.
Milk chocolate, dark chocolate, or a box with both. Some decisions are sweeter when you don’t have to choose. 🤎

Before the familiar boxes and Famous Chocolate Stix, there was Almeda Rupp’s kitchen.
A gifted home cook in northwest Ohio, Almeda perfected her chocolate recipes with help from some willing taste testers: family and friends. She began delivering her hand-dipped chocolates door to door, and by 1924, a family candy business was taking shape.
Her husband, John A. Rupp, and their four sons helped it grow. In 1931, the family began spending summers in northern Michigan, turning a cottage into a place to make and sell their chocolates.
